Deliver Net Proud to Support Yorkshire Air Ambulance & The Brownlee Foundation at Charity Event
Members of the Deliver Net team were delighted to attend an evening with local sporting legends Alistair & Jonny Brownlee last night, in support of two great causes – Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Brownlee Foundation.
The charity dinner, held at the stunning Devonshire Arms Hotel at Bolton Abbey, proved a huge success.
Two Brothers, Four Olympic Medals for Team GB
‘Our boys’ mingled with guests during the evening and held a Q&A session about their truly inspirational careers so far, including winning multiple Olympic medals for Team GB and ‘that race’ in Mexico last year.
The brothers made headlines across the globe last year when Jonny, leading the race at the time, began suffering the rapid and dramatic effects of heat stroke just metres from the line. Seeing his younger brother barely able to stand, Alistair stopped to help him stay on his feet for the last 200 metres, finally pushing him across the line, with the brothers finishing 2nd and 3rd. An act of sportsmanship that will surely be talked about for decades to come.
The brothers also spoke about The Brownlee Foundation, which they set up to help children throughout Yorkshire get involved in endurance sport. The foundation organises fun, non-competitive triathlon events at a variety of venues, with participants just needing a pair of trainers in order to give the sport a go.
A charity auction, featuring a selection of money-can’t-buy experiences was hosted by former Newcastle, Barnsley & Bradford professional footballer, John Hendrie, raising thousands of pounds for both brilliant causes.
Saving Lives Across Yorkshire
Many people are surprised to learn that Yorkshire Air Ambulance is a charity and replies entirely upon public fundraising. Often called upon when patients have suffered major trauma, the service provides life-saving fast response to a population of around 5 million people.
The service costs £12,000 every day in order to keep the £7m specialist helicopters on standby. For details of how you can help, please visit http://www.yorkshireairambulance.org.uk/.
